Program Background
“Industry 4.0” is a buzzword that was created by German digitalization pioneers in 2011 and was really meant as an organizational concept to help businesses identify and implement scenarios in a digitalized business environment.
But industry 4.0 is only one aspect of the broad topic of digitalization. Digitalization is generally the transformation towards digital processes that covers all aspects of society. It will lead to a profound change in almost every aspect of our lives. Digital transformation offers great opportunities for a better quality of life, revolutionary business models, and a more efficient economy. It is therefore imperative for businesses, but also for the public sector, as well as individuals, to acquire the digital competencies to succeed in this transformed world.
Especially small- and medium-sized businesses need to put a particular emphasis on digital competencies as it will be a critical factor for their continued competitiveness. In the industry, digitalization through intelligent production can help achieve better productivity and individualized products.
The German government as well as most German companies put a lot of effort into digitalization.
